What It’s All About

Have you ever wanted to study or go deeper into the Word of God but didn’t know where to start?

Do you want to move beyond reading a few verses each day and find delight and understanding in digging deeper?

Would you like to be able to better apply biblical passages to your life?

Awaken My Ear is a 3-session women’s retreat where we will discover the difference that knowing and studying the Bible can make in our lives.  We will cultivate an appetite for His Word and learn various methods of Bible study.  We will ask the Lord to give us an excitement for knowing and understanding His Word – to awaken our ears to hear His voice.  We will also explore practical and invaluable resources to aid in our study.

Knowing the Word and knowing how to study the Word can empower and equip you to handle whatever situation comes your way.

Are you ready?  It’s time to dig deeper.

“The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue to know the word that sustains the weary.  He wakens me morning by morning.  He wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.”

Isaiah 50:4 [emphasis added]

What Others Are Saying

The “Awaken My Ear” ladies’ retreat renewed my love of God’s Word.  I can already see how as I was taught, knowing how to study the Word will empower and equip me when faced with trials.

I found Kristen’s “Awaken My Ear” study refreshing and much needed at this point in my life.  She is quite a dedicated teacher and I was impressed with her style & approach in group Bible Study. My take-away is that I feel I get so much more out of my daily Bible readings than I did before her class!

I highly recommend Kristen’s biblical presentation, Awaken My Ear.  I was blessed to recently attend a retreat at our local church and she was our speaker.  She is a warm and captivating presenter and I found her words to be both powerful and insightful.  I enjoyed fellowship with other believers while we studied God’s Word and learned how to study His Word.  Kristen shared very practical strategies which helped me grow in the knowledge of my Lord as I am better able to incline my ear to hear His voice.

The teaching at “Awaken My Ear” not only opened my ears to hear what the Lord wanted me to hear, but it also opened my eyes to see how to study God’s Word to get the most out of my study time.  With four little kids, it is rare to have a lot of quiet study time, so when I actually do have it, I want the time to be spent really soaking in what God wants me to hear.  I am so thankful for this study as it taught me how to study more effectively to truly hear the Word of God.

I attended Kristen’s Awaken My Ear – Becoming a Student of the Word with my church sisters and it has helped and motivated me to a deeper study of God’s Word in ways I had never heard of.  I enjoyed the three sessions very much, as she is so down to earth and concise.  Love also how we pray, worship in song, and work together in groups to utilize what we were learning.  Kristen truly has the gift of teaching and ministering to women!

Event Details

Not sure how to structure your event?  We can help you!  There are many things that go into creating a well-rounded event in addition to the teaching segments.  We can provide guidance as to what to include during the retreat time, what segments of time are most ideal, and what will lend itself to a bonding and fellowship-filled time for your ladies’ group.  We even have a closing activity that will help solidify the concepts taught during the retreat, reminding the ladies of what they learned as they go home.

Sessions

Session One:  Why do we want to study God’s Word?  In session one, we will set the stage on why it is important to not only know God’s Word but also to know how to study the Word.  Culturally, we are in a famine of biblical literacy.  Does it matter that God’s Word is inspired, authoritative, infallible and inerrant?  Yes it does, and we will build excitement and a passion for studying the Word of God, exploring the fact that if we need transformation in our lives, it will come with being rooted in His Word.

Session Two: During this session, we will talk about the importance of application when studying God’s Word.  We don’t need to just fill our heads; our hearts and lives also need to be changed.  We will explore the inductive study method (OIA) and practice both as a large group and in small groups.  We will end this session with general principles and good habits for Bible study.

Session Three:  What are other ways we can study the Word?  We will discuss other methods and ideas that can be used when we are spending time in the Word, including a look at the Chapter Summary Method.  Then, we will explore practical and valuable resources that will help us in our study, including how to look up a word in the Greek or Hebrew (it is so much easier than you ever imagined).  We will wrap up with a reminder of how important it is to keep God’s Word close.

Closing Activity:  Without giving anything away, we like to close with an activity that will help solidify what we learned during the weekend and send your attendees home with a visual illustration of the value of God’s Word.
